Q: MR. WINTER, IT IS CLEAR THAT YOU HAVE HAD AND STILL HAVE A SHITLOAD OF FANS. ÊI WORK AT THE RENO, HILTON AND WE HAVE AN OUTDOOR THEATER AS WELL AS AN INDOOR STAGE (THE WORLDS LARGEST) ONE WAY OR THE OTHER YOU SHOULD BE ON THIS STAGE! I HAVE BEEN VOCAL RE: THE FACT THAT BESIDES JIMI HENDRIX YOU ARE THE MAN!!! (EVEN IN MY OPINION INCLUDING JIMI) THE HILTON STAGE (INDOOR) IS A GET PLACE TO PLAY... I HAVE SEEN GREGG ALLMAN, JOE SATRIANI, ETC. AND IT IS CLEAR THAT YOU WOULD BLOW THEM ALL AWAY. IF WE COULD ONLY GET THE RADIO TO PLAY YOUR SONGS THE REST OF THE WORLD WOULD UNDERSTAND THAT YOU ARE THE MAN. ANYWAY... KEEP ON ROCKIN... YOU ARE THE ONE AND ONLY... THE ONE THAT CAN NEVER BE DUPLICATED...
A: Call my agent, Bruce (603-586-7172). Give him the info on the Hilton. I hope to find a good radio airplay blues song someday.

Q: I love all your music and especially like it when you play the slower blues songs like "You keep sayin' that you're leavin'," "Life is Hard," etc. Do you have any songs that you have written but not recorded yet? I can't wait until you come back to the Jacksonville, Florida area again. February 1999? I will definitely be there. If I send you a picture I took of you in 1994, would you autograph it for me?
A: I have some songs I would like to use on my next record.

Q: Was introduced to you a few years back by Floyd Radford, while you were in Florida and also warmed up for you in Orlando with the Houseshakers at the Beacham Theater. Now living in northern NY (near Ogdensburg) on your way to Ottawa. Just wanted to invite you and the crew to my little farm in the country to stretch your legs if your ever "passin' through."
A: Thanks for the invite. Pretty busy at the moment.

Q: Johnny, PLEASE come to Fort Worth... every time I drive across the Dallas County Line, I feel like I need a bath. Its the meanest damn town I know. Ever heard of Guy Forsyth? He reminds me of you...See you in Fort Worth!
A: See you in Fort Worth around March or April. Never heard of Guy Forsyth.

Q: I'm a member of the Fan Club. Within the material, a memo mentions that you'd appreciate the opinions of your fans concerning song lineups and band arrangements. ÊMy comments are not meant to be rude or critical. You are my favorite guitarist of all time. My suggestions are meant as supportive. Here goes:
1. Large bootleg archives have proven that your concerts are Êmuch higher quality when you tour as a three piece band; leaving the Harp player behind. You generously turn the stage over to the Harp musician (Paris) a little too much. This seems to take away from the spontaneity and intimacy you develop within the guitar solos.
2. Highway 61 and Mean Town Blues have become signature songs of yours and one or the other must be played during the concert.
3. No matter what, don't loose Mark Epstein; the bass player. He is by far the most skilled bass player you have ever toured/recorded with. A supreme talent.
4. Please play more shows in California, San Francisco Bay Area. If you could hit Sacramento, San Jose, SF, Palo Alto, maybe Nevada, it would be nice.
5. I've got a single CD of recordings I'd like you to listen to. The songs on the CD are taken from a few of your live performances; exceptional out-takes, to say the least. IÕd like you to give it listen and read the letter that will be attached to the CD. If interested, please inform me of the proper mailing address. Thank you for reading and sharing your talent.
A: Please forward to:

Q: Hello Johnny, I hope your tour went well. My question is will you ever come back to Beaumont for a show. You haven't played Êyour home town in so many years. I'm jealous of and envy the people that have had a chance to see you on this tour. I sit and read about you from the people in your chat room that have seen you at a recent show. So will you come back or at least to Houston, Would you conceder playing a private party of your fans. I've seen you over 30 times since 1973 and it would be great to see you at home one more time.
A: I plan on being in Texas to perform around March or April. I will post the dates when I have them. I don't usually play private parties, but call my manager, Teddy Slatus.

Q: I am a drummer. I am looking for info on the cymbals that Tom Compton uses. If anyone has knowledge of Tom's complete cymbal setup, such as brand names, model #'s, etc. I would be grateful! Maybe Tom could take time out of his busy schedule to post a reply.
A: Tom Compton is no longer in my band. I have no info on the cymbal setup.

Q: I recall years ago seeing a photo of you and Jimi Hendrix together in a Hendrix biography. Do you have any recollections of hangin' out with him. Also, there was a recording of you Hendrix, and Jim Morrison jamming out and sounding pretty lubricated. Is that recording commercially available today?
A: The record you are talking about is most likely a bootleg. I met Jimi a lot on the scene in NYC.

Q: 2 questions. Any chance that you know how to get a video copy of the Midnight Special from the early 70's? I remember "rock & roll" was played--fabulous! Also, rumor has it you played on a couple of Bugs Henderson releases. Which ones? Keep up the great work and thanks for coming to KC this year. My fiance, Karen, had never heard you play live. Oh my, did I get rewarded for that!!!! Thanks for the "mean town blues" which still sends chills across my skin.
A: I wish I had a copy myself. I can't wait to visit KC again. Great music town.

Q: To Johnny or any of his fans: what songs have been played at some recent concerts? Any replies would be appreciated. I've seen him twice in the last 2 years and on both occasions he played the "Live in NYC 97" material almost verbatim from the disc.
A: I am mostly staying with the Live '97 CD set.

Q: Is there any guitar TAB for the Let me in CD?
A: No

Q: Johnny, Been one of your biggest fans. Memory Pain was the 1st song I ever heard and that was it. That was l968 and you have been #1 in my book. I started playing bass then and listened to ALL your albums from then till now until I wore them out. Nonetheless, Since you ARE THE Blues Man with an unmistakable image, why don't you hook up with some bass ace and smokin' drummer and have your record company promote the hell out of you and get you back to a household name and show Kenny Wayne and Jonny Lang a thing or two. Your material rocks and your were AND STILL ARE the smokiest !!! It would be so good to hear you on the radio and see you filling stadiums again... DUDE, you can do it!! You have a huge fan base and with all these other bands coming back around, or like you who NEVER went away, it would be so awesome to see YOU instead of Jonny & Kenny. I realize that it is good that the young guys are keepin' it alive, but that should be YOU on the radio. You have some AWESOME stuff that blows this 90's crap away. I am wishing you the best though in ALL your endeavors. Just don't EVER go away. I am sorry to hear about the Carpal Tunnel and the Anxiety, but we all have a cross to bear, and what doesn't kill ya' will make you stronger. You are THE BEST and are one of the few who have literally NO competition. KEEP ROCKIN" and the best of luck in the New Year !!!! When you come back to So. Florida, could you add "Memory PAIN" to your set list?
A: I will be adding a harp player to my show and I have a new drummer Vito Luizzi who can sing his Ass off. I plan on changing my show so look out here I come. The Carpel Tunnel is under control, thanks for your concern.

Q: Johnny, you are by far the greatest guitar player that ever lived. I know that you did a concert with Janis Joplin (her final show with the Kozmic Blues Band, I think). I was wondering if any recordings are available or exist with her. You mentioned that you were in the process of putting together a video. Will it be available in dvd? (Please say yes.) Are you planning on coming back to the ND area sometime soon? You were at the Medina Entertainment Center in Minneapolis a couple of months ago and I drove 5+ hours to see you, but they wouldn't let me in because it was only 21+. I have loved your music ever since I heard "Mean Town Blues" on my Woodstock boxed set. After that, I was totally hooked. You introduced me to the blues (and you are by far the greatest blues singer/guitarist of them all, but your music turned me on to several new blues performers). I hope to see you perform live.
A: I don't think any recording's exist with myself and Janis. As far as the video is concerned I hope to have it on dvd. I will be in ND sometime this year for sure.

Q: Hey Johnny! Coming to see you soon! Can't wait!! How about practicing up on some of the good ole memories from Second Winter, like I love Everybody and Fast Life Rider for me! Talked to D. Collins the other day. Seen him lately? JW come on down towards Nashville!!
A: See you in Nashville either April or May Working on a new show. I will be adding a harp player to my show and I have a new drummer Vito Luizzi who can sing his Ass off. I plan on changing my show so look out here I come.

Q: Last year saw you at the Pgh. Blues Festival, July 11, You were great! WYEP that sponsors it will probably or have been in touch with you to play. It certainly would not be the same without you! Have they contacted you yet on a date, and will that coincide with your trip to Europe?? When do you leave? Forever, Karen PS Was lucky enough to catch you Nov 17th and coming to NYC to specially see you again.
A: I will leave for Europe in July. I have not yet been contacted by the Pittsburgh Blues Festival. See you in New York City.

Q: Hey MR. Winter. Hope your feeling fine and heathy.I've been a fan of yours for many years. I was wondering if a real fan can get a your John Hancock. I'm a guitar player and have a lot of good demos on hand if interested contact me at [email protected] and I'll send you a copy. Thanks and may God keep you HEALTHY your One of the last great One's left. Joseph Bialek.
A: Join our fan club & you will receive my John Hancock. Send Material to my office.

Q: I remember on the old forum that someone asked you about doing a remake of Hanky Panky (I think that's what it was). I heard another when I was driving and I thought that you could make a great hit out of. It may be off the wall, but here it is... "Chain of Fools" by Aretha Franklin. Have you done this one somewhere? What do you think?
A: Have not done Chain of Fools, there's no way to top her anyway.

Q: Hi Johnny, I have over 40 of your releases and love them all. Unfortunately, many of these are on the list of unauthorized releases that you posted on this site. I would hate to destroy these CDs but I could make a cash donation in your name to a charity. Do you have a favorite charity?
A: Whatever you feel is proper for a charity donation would be great. Do not destroy those CD's just be careful what you buy in the future.

Q: Hi Johnny. I just read on Edgar's site that he's working on a new solo project due for release in early '99 and YOU'RE ON IT. What tunes are you doing? Slide or regular guitar? Enjoyed Edgar's "Real Deal" as well as Rick Derringer's "Tend the Fire," although I have to admit I bought them both because you were on them. How's your own work in the studio going?
A: I start working on my record very soon. Have not played yet on Edgar's record, I will try to record for Edgar in Feb, 99.

Q: Hi Johnny, I would like to ask what trio you felt you played the best with, had the most fun with and which one you are the proudest of for the music you produced?
Winter, Shannon, Turner?
Winter, Hobbs, Hughes?
Winter, Paris, Compton?
A: I have to say I loved all my trio's. Each player contributed something else.
