Q: Johnny, I received an e-mail today stating that there IA a documentary to be released directed
by David Kramer, with recently discovered 1969 footage and more. He is an independent producer, which made me wonder if this was with
your permission and do you or your management know of this?
A: Yes I know Mr. David Kramer and the old footage he has. Thanks for the concern.
Q: Thanks for doing Ottawa last summer--had the tickets under a fridge magnet months in advance.
Coming again? Just want to cast another vote for another album with some acoustic numbers. TV Mama can fit about 3 to 4 times into a
car ride home from work depending on traffic. Do you use finger picks as well as a thumb pick when you play the National Steel?
A: Just use a thumb pick. I will not forget your request for an acoustic song.
Q: Dear Mr. Winter, The TRUE Master of the Blues guitar is you !!! I listing your music since
thirteen years, and your diabolical guitar technique more and more fascinate me, you play so well that sometimes I thing it's
supernatural.I love all your CD's or LP but my three favorites albums are : "Third degree", "Nothing but the Blues" and "Let me in",
...unfortunately, SONGBOOKS are not available here !!! ...I would like (try to) play your songs. About "Third degree," ...I like
"Tin Pan Alley" (Jones), ...but I hope one day you will record Jimmy Reed version too, ...it's the more beautiful Blues I know?
Stay healthy, yours truly, Stˇphane (a JW Blues-fan from France).
A: Hi Stephanie I will add a Jimmy Reed Request to my request folder.
Q: I realize that you must get loads of people asking you if you're coming here/there and
everywhere but I feel I must stick in a voice from Belfast =) I first heard your Black Album about two years ago, almost 30 years
after my dad and his brothers found a copy and played it to death. I must rate "Be Careful With A Fool" as perhaps the greatest
single guitar intro I've ever heard, perhaps I don't listen to enough stuff, but anyway.. (also, I'll Drown in My own Tears is truly
beautiful) But enough of the hero worship, is there any hope of you coming to any part of Ireland, (North or south) in the not too
distant future as me and my dad would absolutely kill for the chance of seeing you
A: No Plans yet for Ireland I will discuss this with the agent that handles Europe for me. I
love, Be Careful with a Fool. I should consider doing these songs in my show Thanks for the input.
Q: Since reading your message I have been on the lookout for those albums so as to not purchase
them. I came across an album not on the list, and not listed in your discography. "Early Heat." Is it legit or a bootleg? A friend
turned me on to you in 1972....I got away from buying music for about 10 to 15 years. Another friend got me interested in the blues
again in 1995. Your music is as good now as it was in 1972...not many artist can say that. When are you coming to the Gulf Coast?
Hopefully somewhere between Pensacola Fl. to New Orleans.
A: Early Heat-- bootleg. Thanks for looking out for me. Looks like Florida sometimes between
March and April. I will post the dates.
Q: Just picked up the Winter of '88 cd and loved the two songs that were not on the vinyl
version, "Mother Earth" and "It'll be me." Question is, why were these not on the original release?
A: Not Aware of the change on the album Winter of 88 Can You make me a copy of that purchase?
Thanks.
Q: As a huge fan who doesn't get to see JW much anymore, I was wondering if there were any
'official' concert vids ever made, and if not, are there any plans for one in the future?
A: Working on a video right now I am running late as we changed the producer and the style
of the shoot. It should be ready this year.
Q: Dear Mr. Winter,Undeniably, you are The True MASTER of the Blues guitar ! I listing your
music since thirteen years and your diabolical guitar technique more and more fascinate me, you play so well that sometimes I
thing it's supernatural.I love all you CD's and LP but my two favorites albums are : "Third degree" and "Nothing but the Blues",
... Unfortunately, these songbooks are not available here!!! ...I would like (to try) to play yours songs! About "Third degree,"
I like "TinPan alley" (Jones), ...but I hope one day you will record Jimmy REED version too !!! It's the more beautiful Blues I
know. Apart from J. Reed, SRVaughan, Bernard Allison, Do you know any other good performances of this song? Stay healthy, yours
truly, Stˇphane (a JW Blues-fan from France) Ps: please forgive my poor English.
A: Sorry a song book is not around of Nothing But the Blues and Third Degree. Stephanie your
English is pretty good thanks for your support.
Q: Jeff Ganz - Does anyone have any info on this monster of a bassist? Where is he now? Why
did he go?
A: Jeff Ganz is Living in Chicago, I will pass your good luck on to him.
Q: I too, have collected many of the unauthorized albums. I'm just a sucker for anything
that has your name on it. I'm sorry, I had no idea they were unauthorized. I have been collecting every form of your music for
30 years now (I'm not kidding, since 1969). I have dozens and dozens of albums, cassettes, 8-tracks, and CD's. I was very sorry
to hear that so many were unauthorized. My maiden name is Winter, and we have albinos in our family. I always kinda thought we
might be distant relatives or something. I even have relatives that look very much like you and Edgar. It's most probably a
coincidence, but boy, it sure impressed my friends when I was a teenager! In the late 60's and early 70's my friends and I went
to every gig you did in Detroit. But it's been a long time since I've seen you in concert, because I live in the boonies now!
It kind of hurt my feelings when you dedicated a recent CD to your "fans who come to my concerts," because I am no longer able
to do so. But I'm still a fan, even if I can't come to the concerts, and I think you should have dedicated it to your fans who
love and buy your music (that's me)! Anyway, after reading the "Forum" and "Guestbook" letters, I know it's something you hear
all the time, but, in my opinion, YOU ARE THE BEST! I hope you are well, you sound like you are; my best wishes to you and yours
always. You have a fan for life! And one more thing: Thank you so much for this official web site and communicating with your
fans -- we really appreciate it!
A: I guess that's the nature of my business unauthorized recordings are a major problem for
the recording industry as a whole. My mistake my record should be dedicated to all my fans around the world. I guess I was caught
up in the live recording. My brain was thinking live at the time, sorry.
Q: Where I can find the lyrics (guess I'll go away) from the album Johnny Winter and.
A: Send me a self addressed envelope and I will see that you get the lyrics for Guess I'll go away!
Q: Hi, Johnny: I've been a fan of yours since the early 70's and I just want to say I
think you're the greatest blues/rock guitarist on the planet. I saw you in Ottawa in July '98 and again a week later at The
Phoenix in Toronto. I was concerned about your health, but I read in this Q&A; forum that your taking medication for anxiety.
It's not as serious as I thought. Any plans to come back to Toronto? Take care of yourself.
A: No plans for Toronto yet. Keeping my Anxiety in check. Thanks for your concern.
Q: Johnny, I have loved you since the first time I heard you in 88. Second Winter was my
first exposure and still one of my all time favorite albums. I saw you in Iowa in 88, was right up front and you were even
more amazing in person. A couple years later I found out that we shared a birthday, the 23rd of February. I don't know if this
date is as special to you as it is to me but it was something very extraordinary to find that my all time favorite blues guy
was made even more special by his birth date. My birthday present is getting to see you here in Maryland, it's a little early,
Feb. 5, but my birthday wishes will be with us both. I am still hoping to win the chance to actually meet you, because, damn
it! I want it more than the others!!! Peace and much Love
A: Happy Birthday I hope you have some plans for Feb. 23.
Q: I met Mr. Earlwine at a guitar show in San Antonio, I asked him about the lazer, he said
I can get it with any pickups I want, what kind do u have in your #1 ax, also what kind of computer do you have and how long
have you been computing. Is the Lazer worth the $2000 and can you get me a deal. thanks dude
A: I think the lazer has a pretty good value. I'm waiting for a deal myself good luck with
the lazer.
Q: Johnny, if I order one of these units for Lazer, is it the same as yours. pick ups,
etc., that neck pickup sounds wicked. Also that's for droppin the bomb. It really blows me away.
A: My manager suggested I do drop the bomb I'll tell him you like the song.
Q: I'm Rudi from Austria, this year I want to go NY, if there's a gig. Can you tell me,
when you play there? A great wish from me, to have a photo from Johnny and me, wow! If we meet us, it«s possible? Thank you Rudi
A: Just Played NYC, Sorry I missed you. Next time lets do a photo together.
Q: Johnny... I am having a hard time figuring something out. People keep referring to
Bonnie Raitt as a "blues" guitarist. Sorry but I just don't get it. Yeah her music has some blues influence (what modern
music doesn't)? But if people are gonna call her a blues guitarist then we have to come up with a new definition for you....
A: I think Bonnie Raitt plays some mean stuff. When you find the definition of Johnny
Winter let me know!!!
Q: Johnny, Great show in Baltimore! Special thanks for signing my Brothers National.
It meant a lot to our family. Take care and God Bless.
A: I had fun in Baltimore, as usual!
Q: Hi Johnny, do you remember playing at the Col in Davenport, Iowa a few times? Great
shows! Any return to Iowa in the near future?
A: Some time this year I hope to se you in Iowa.
Q: Johnny, if you read these questions how do you comment about the criticism that has
been expressed on these pages (and on other JW sites as well) towards Teddy Slatus, your manager ??
A: I really feel bad that Teddy is blamed for all sorts of things. He really keeps my
show going and keeps my show on line. Try blaming someone else for a change. I am not working without him.
